Projects

My PhD research is on the efficacy of the use of retro graphics or retro graphic design in initiating conversation with people living with dementia in their mild to moderate stages of the disease.

A pilot study I conducted revealed that people living with dementia could not easily identify retro posters without familiar faces. However, some phrases and elements on the retro posters were able to initiate conversation.

I have also designed a board game based on football (soccer) game to be used in educating a population on vector-borne diseases. Testing the board game on malaria in a user workshop on people from different countries (Kenya, South Sudan, Ghana, Cameroon and Dominica) proved to be effective in malaria education. The board game is referred to as Malaball (from Malaria football). I was invited twice by Sheffield Hallam University Public Health Programme leaders to demonstrate the use of the board game to the MPH students during the academic years of 2012/13 and 2013/14.

I am looking forward to undertaking a large scale research to test its effectiveness on school children in Africa.
